1. Product Categories #

Product categories in POSibolt are used to separate inventory based on the nature of the items, products are usually categorised (Classed) based on similar characteristics, such as brand, department etc; Carefully deciding on your product categories will provide the most efficient inventory reporting results.

Product categories can contain as many “Parent-Child” nests as desired. Creating a product category is the simplest task throughout the POSibolt ERP and will be detailed for you below.

Please note, only those marked with an * are required, However, all fields will be detailed to provide an understanding of the category system in POSibolt, fields preceded with a # in this guide are auto-generated by the system if not manually set.

  1. Navigate to Administration > Product Category and click the New icon, This opens the product category details screen for a new product category.
  • Product Category Name*: Insert the name of the category.
  • Parent Category: All created categories will appear in this drop-down, in the event that the category you are creating is a subcategory, simply choose the parent category from this drop-down list. This drop-down will contain subcategories as well in the event that you need to create further sub/nested categories.
  • Organisations: In a multi-branch company, the branches are created as organisations. Selecting an organisation from this drop-down will assign this category to that organization ONLY, however, selecting * will make this a universal category across all branches and is the most common configuration for this field.
  • Description: Describing the purpose of a category can greatly assist with new employees understanding the structure of the business.

Product Category Type

  • Item: When a category type is Item, by default the product will be selected as an Item product when the category is selected at the product creation screen.
  • Service: A service item is an item that can not physically move, such as labour, cleaning, etc, Selecting this will set the item by default as a service item when selecting this category at the product creation screen.

Additional Options

  • Active: Active categories are categories that are in use and can be used when created products, If unchecked, the category won’t be available and it will be as if it is deleted.
  • Auto SKU Attributes: This allows for attributes to be created using a base product ( See Variable Products section)
